Sussex County Council Chambers Case Study

About the Client

The Sussex County Council Chambers are located in Newton, New Jersey. These chambers are where the county’s governing body meets to discuss and make decisions on county policies, budgets, legislation, and other important matters affecting the residents of Sussex County, New Jersey.

The council meetings are open to the public, and county residents can attend to observe or participate in public comment periods. The board will regularly have meaningful in-person and virtual discussions on a wide range of topics.

In any municipal facility, especially one where critical meetings are held, having the right audiovisual equipment so that participants can be heard and seen clearly is essential.

The Challenge

There were various audio and visual issues for this location. The client’s biggest issue they were having is that when a member of the public came up to speak, no one behind them could hear. They mentioned only the Commissioners were being heard, which constantly led to poor communication.

Another issue the client mentioned was with their existing projector. In the location where the client originally had the display, not all members were able to see clearly. When the board was displaying important content for meetings, people would interrupt and need to turn their bodies sideways to catch a glance at the content. This would interfere with the flow of the meetings and proved to be a huge distraction.

The Solution

CSAV installed:

1.)    Sound Reinforcement and Control Panel System- (8) Gooseneck microphones were integrated along the dais and connected to a new DSP Mixer which will be tuned to optimize sound in the room. (2) Handheld wireless microphones with desktop stands were included, making it easy for participants to speak. (6) Ceiling Speakers were installed and connected to the system for local audio. A custom-programmed Crestron Touch Panel will control microphone volume and audio calling. Ceiling microphones were installed to supplement room sound for audio calling. Since the client was interested in live streaming, we also provided an audio recorder with SD recording.

2.)    Video System – (2) 75″ displays were mounted to the wall behind the dais. A 3rd 75″ Confidence Monitor will be mounted on a back wall for the dais to see content. (2) HDMI wall plates will be installed to connect content to the displays. The video system has a wireless bring your own device, making it easy for anyone to share content and information.

3.)    Camera- A PTZ Camera was installed into the back of the room and connected to a new computer for live streaming or video conferencing if needed. The computer will also be routable to the displays, ensuring instant connectivity.

The Outcome

Our team at CSAV Systems was responsible for providing a comprehensive audiovisual solution for the Sussex County Meeting Room. Our team designed, installed, and integrated systems to alleviate their sound issues and overall enhance their video experience.

For this project, the focus was on optimizing the audio experience. Our installation of (8) new Gooseneck Microphones along the Dais, connected to a DSP Mixer, ensures clear and balanced sound throughout the room. The addition of the numerous speakers and microphones throughout the room elevates the functionality of the space. We also custom-programmed a Crestron Touch Panel to give staff full control over microphone volume and video conferencing.

The 75″ displays mounted were optimal for viewing by all attendees. To ensure seamless content connection, we installed HDMI wall plates and made it easy for users to connect wirelessly. For added flexibility, we installed a PTZ camera and connected it to a computer for live streaming and video conferencing capabilities.

CSAV Systems is proud to have supported Sussex County with a custom solution that meets their needs for both function and flexibility.
